Objectives: High tension leading cause of increased risk of mortality among family caregivers, inadequate care and abandon of the patient. Spirituality promotion a sense of mastery and control, strength to endure the stressors of illness. No tool is to investigate family caregiver’ current spiritual state and identify the need for spiritual intervention in Iran. The purpose is to identified independent level patient with chronic disease, explore the concept of spirituality and psychometric of related scale; Caregiver’s spiritual empowering scale(CSES).
Materials and Methods: This study is a Multiphase mixed method from June 2016 to August 2018 in the southwestern region of Iran. The first phase, cross sectional survey of ADL and IADL in people with chronic disease (N= 389), and the second phase exploratory sequential mixed method, content analysis study (N= 26) and Psychometric of CSES in family caregiver (N= 395)
Results: mean Caregiver’s age was (42 Mean ± 12SD), 17 to 74 year. ADL 87% and IADL, 99.5% patients’ dependent on or needing help. In qualitative study phase, the four main categories emerged in the context of “Empowering spirituality”. The CSES consist 12 items loaded one single factor, scale reliability and validity was confirmed on base CVR>0.45, CVI>0.78, KAPPA>o.75, IS>1.5, α=0.92, ICC=0.91, (CI= 95%, 0.90-0.92), r=0.57, P=0.000, SEM=1.64, KMO= 94, P< 0.001.
Conclusion: In increasing the dependence of people with chronic diseases and the risk of burnout in family caregiver, empowerment of spiritual is essential as a low-cost and effective method. The CSES is valid and reliable instrument for measure of the status of empowerment spirituality in informal caregivers and to measure the effectiveness of interventions.
